Cacheuta Hot Spring – Argentina

Termas de Cacheuta

Our January featured hot spring Termas de Cacheuta is located southwest of Mendoza in deep gorge below the Potrerillos reservoir. The resort is on Ruta Provincial 82 at kilometer 38 along the Mendoza River, which is about a 40-minute drive from the city center. The main pool is sourced from a grotto with 47°C water, which in turn is piped from a hot spring vent that has 61°C temperature. The hot spring waters have surfaced through Permian aged granitic rock that comprises the canyon walls. The hot spring water is crystal clear and odorless. At the main pool the water temperature is generally 30°C. These hot spring pools are in terraces, making 10 rock-bordered soaking pools.

The Termas Cacheuta Spa and Hotel has 16 rustic rooms starting at US$187. The facility is open year round. The hotel hot springs are open for day use from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. with the restriction that children under 14 are not permitted in the grotto area.

Farther up the canyon the same company has piped water to a kid friendly complex of pools. The crowded parking lot near the suspension bridge attests to the large crowds. With slides, bridges, waterfalls, etc., the Termas de Cacheuta has a water park atmosphere. It would be well worth the effort to visit Cacheuta during a week day to avoid the crowds. As published in our book Hot Springs of the Andes
